Montana Petition to End Criminal Penalties for Responsible Adult Consumption of Cannabis Marijuana Signature Collection for 2012 Ballot Begins
Montanan’s will be asked to place their signatures on a petition for the 2012 ballot to end criminal penalties for responsible adult consumption of cannabis. If the collection of about 24,000 signatures for the repeal of Senate Bill 423, the restructuring of medical marijuana in Montana, is any indication of the political atmosphere in Montana, this just might get on the ballot! Many in the medical marijuana industry believe this is the right move for Montanan’s and patients. Unrestricted access to cannabis would be a fantastic byproduct of this constitutional amendment.

Montana First is a ballot issue committee formed in support of CI-110, which was approved for signature gathering on December 28th, 2011.
If approved by voters, CI-110 would add two sentences to the Montana Constitution:
Adults have the right to responsibly purchase, consume, produce, and possess marijuana, subject to reasonable limitations, regulations, and taxation. Except for actions that endanger minors, children, or public safety, no criminal offense or penalty of this state shall apply to such activities.
CI-110 provides sensible marijuana enforcement that protects children and public safety without requiring law enforcement officers to pursue law-abiding adults who use marijuana.
CI-110 says that we should refocus law enforcement dollars on priorities where our police can make a difference and protect our communities.
CI-110 contains important safeguards to make sure that no person who endangers others, such as by driving under the influence, will avoid penalties. CI-110 opens the door to state regulation and taxation of marijuana.
CI-110 is a simple, common-sense step, one that is long overdue after many years of expensive, failed policies regarding marijuana use by adults.
