Montana BioTech is proud to introduce the Plant DNA Collection Kit™. This kit has many functions! The small time patient, to the large scale farmer can gain from this kit / service! Here is how it works!
Montana Biotech currently offers hermaphroditetesting and sexing of Cannabis 1-2 weeks after germination! So, if you are looking for the FASTEST method to sex your medical marijuana / cannabis seedlings, call on Montana Biotech!Male / Female and Hermaphrodite Screening, or Genetic Profiling:
In today’s environment of high competition in the medical marijuana industry, a way to distinguish what you have from your competitors is essential! This kit can be used to create a uniquegeneticprofile of your hybrid! This PCR, gel electrophoresis based test can provide you a “picture” of YOUR plantsgeneticmake-up! With this info in hand, it is easier to obtain a trademark on your variety / strain with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Another advantage that can be gained with the Plant DNA Collection Kit™ is TIME! TIME from seed, to clone, to harvest! At some point we all need to start from seed, whether it is starting a new variety / strain, or creating your own hybrid. It would be great to be able to weed the males from the females to increaseproductivity! This can be obtained with male / female sexing! Male / female sexing is a PCR based test. 1-2 weeks after germination of the seed, KNOW if it’s male or female by its GENES. NO GUESS WORK. By time that seedling is ready for cloning, KNOW that it is a FEMALE, and move on!! Maintain the phenotype without having to re-vegetate the plant, our having unwanted clones reducing cost!
Have you ever wanted to test your cannabis plant to see if it is a hermaphrodite? Well, Montana Biotech has a test for that! A cannabis plant will express hermaphroditic tendencies from environmental stresses or because of a genetic predisposition to express monoecious traits. A monoecious cannabisplant is a TRUE hermaphrodite. This cannabis plant will express male and female flower structures on the same plant. This is the hermaphrodite to be aware of! A true hermaphrodite sexes as a female early in the flowering cycle. A true hermaphrodite is a ticking time bomb! She/it will seed everything in your flowering room! Environmentally induced hermaphroditecannabis plants can not be tested for, at this time, and do not pose the same risk to the rest of the room. These hermaphrodites are not “true” hermaphrodites and usually pollinate themselves. ANY cannabisplant can be induced to revert to a hermaphroditic state by stress. By stressing a cannabis plant, you have tapped into its inherent survival programming. Montana Biotech now offers a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based test for hermaphroditescreening of cannabis plants. KNOW if your cannabis plant has the TRUE hermaphrodite trait before you flower it! Our motto is, “Know before they show…”

Grow Buddy™ is a T.L.C. based method for analyzing cannabis for the presence of THC, CBD, CBN that ANYONE can perform at home! The Test is quick and fun! if you have brewed beer, wine, if you consider your self a “good” cook, you can perform a T.L.C. test for THC, CBD, CBN.
TLC, UNODC (United Nations Office on Drug and Crime)
TLC was the method of choice for this study as it provides a means of rapidly and visuallyanalysing a number of samplessimultaneously. Unlike the comparison of two samples in order to assess whether they are the same (or different), when quantitativeanalysis is essential, assessment of origin is qualitative, since the sample under study and the referencesamples are, in fact, different. There is thus little point in using more powerfultechniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography as the quantitativeinformation provided is likely to confuse the picture. The TLCsystem was designed to give information on the cannabivarins in addition to the more commonly studied cannabinoids. The principal cannabinoids observed using this system are given in table 2. Sample preparation and detection were as previously described [ 47] [ 48] . The solvent system used was a mixture of chloroform (ethanol-free) and l,l-dichloroethane (15:10) with simple ascending TLC on 10 x 20 cm silica gel pre-coated plates with a layer thickness of 0.25 mm (E. Merck, Darmstadt, G.F.R., Art. No. 5729) [ 46] . Each extract was analysed within one hour of preparation. Twentydifferent samples of herbalcannabis and cannabisresin from several differentcountries were subjected to hot-solvent extraction to simulate the illicitpreparation of liquidcannabis. The resulting chromatograms were compared with those of the startingmaterial..
The control in this test was ~17% THC by volume… You can tell the size of the dots for Connie Chung (A) and (B) are larger. You can draw you own conclusions!

Abstract
The use of Cannabis is illicit in numerous countries and the increasing consumption has led to a multiplication of scientific studies. New methods of planar chromatography such as Automated Multiple Development (AMD) and Optimum Performance Laminar Chromatography (OPLC) techniques can be used as a substitute for the traditional TLC for the identification and quantification of the Indian hemp components. Each method offers its own advantage: high resolution with neither diffusion nor spot stretching for AMD, speed, efficiency and the possibility of working in semi-preparative mode for OPLC.

Phyto–cannabinoids, also known as cannabinoids or exo–cannabinoids, are differentiated from endo-cannabinoids due to their production from enzymes in a plant opposed to being manufactured in a human, or better yet, a mammal. Cannabinoids come in many shapes and functions. Today, there are many known unique phytocannnabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids. Laboratories, like Montana Biotech, are currently assisting in cannabinoidtesting. This service can help patients get the most from this ancient plant, cannabis.
Montana Biotech is a lab focusing on RE-discovering the science behind cannabis. Cannabinoids are the therapeutic compounds found in the cannabis genus. Both hemp and marijuana produce phyto-cannabinoids. The true difference between cannabishemp and cannabis marijuana is the plants ability to produce, enzymaticaly, THCA. New discoveries have lead researchers to the hypothesis that it is the functionality of the enzyme, THCAsynthase, not the absence of the gene coding for the enzyme that differentiates marijuana varieties from cannabishemp varieties. Plant derived cannabinoids, phytocannabinoids, are created by the cannabis plant through a single enzyme catalyzed reaction. Each cannabinoid has a corresponding enzyme catalyzing their creation. CBN is the only known cannabinoid NOT derived from an enzymatic process; instead CBN is a degradation product, UV light exposure, heating, of THC.
Endocannabinoid System Network
Endocannabinoid System Explained, Dr. Melamede Ph.D professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
The endocannabinoid system refers to a group of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors that are involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory; it mediates the psychoactive effects of cannabis and, broadly speaking, includes:
The enzymes that synthesize and degrade the endocannabinoids. Unlike traditional neurotransmitters, endogenous cannabinoids are not stored in vesicles after synthesis, but are synthesized on demand (Rodriguez de Fonseca et al., 2004).[citation needed] However, some evidence suggests that a pool of synthesized endocannabinoids (namely, 2-AG) may exist without the requirement of on-demand synthesis.[1]
The endocannabinoid system has been studied using genetic and pharmacological methods. These studies have revealed a broad role for endocannabinoid signaling in a variety of physiological processes, including neuromodulator release,[2][3][4]motor learning,[5]synaptic plasticity,[6]appetite,[7] and pain sensation.[8]
Cannabis potency testing has come of age! Knowing the cannabinoid profile of a cannabis strain or variety will help providers of medical cannabis fit a patients’ condition to a medicine they will benefit from the best. Montana Biotech offers cannabinoid potency testing in Montana. There are two types of testing that can be employed by a laboratory or individual to analyze their cannabis, qualitative and quantitative.
When thinking of the difference between qualitative vs quantitativetesting methods think of quality verses quantity. Thin layer chromatography, T.L.C., is a qualitative method of testingcannabis that provides a “picture” or “finger print” of the quality of phytocannabinoidspresent in a medical marijuana sample. It is an absent or present testing method; is CBD in the sample or not? T.L.C. is not a method to determine the amount of CBD in a cannabis sample as accurately as a quantitativetesting method like gas chromatography, GC.
When thinking of the difference between quantitative vs qualitativetesting methods think of quantity verses quality. Quantitative methods determine how much THC, CBD, CBN or other novel cannabinoids are present in a medical cannabis sample or cannabis infused preparation. Some of the well known quantitative methods are gas chromatography (GC), and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Both methods are currently used by cannabispotency testing labs all over the U.S.

A monoecious cannabisplant is a TRUE hermaphrodite. This cannabisplant will express male and female flower structures on the same plant. This is the hermaphrodite to be aware of! A true hermaphrodite sexes as a female early in the flowering cycle. A true hermaphrodite is a ticking time bomb! She/it will seed everything in your flowering room! Environmentally induced hermaphroditecannabisplants can not be tested for, at this time, and do not pose the same risk to the rest of the room. These hermaphrodites are not “true” hermaphrodites and usually pollinate themselves. ANY cannabisplant can be induced to revert to a hermaphroditic state by stress. By stressing a cannabisplant, you have tapped into its inherent survival programming. Our motto is, “Know before they show…”
Montana Biotech now offers a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based test for hermaphrodite screening of cannabisplants. KNOW if your cannabis plant has the TRUE hermaphrodite trait before you flower it!
Hermaphroditism in the cannabis sub species Indica, Sativa, or Ruderalis can be defined in terms of two types, a True Hermaphrodite or an Environmentally Induced Hermaphrodite. I will try to define the subtle differences. Hermaphroditism in cannabis is a genetically influenced trait. Both true and environmentally induced hermaphrodites can be genotypically and phenotypically observed.
A genotypic difference that can be observed between the two is the presence of both sex markers in true hermaphrodites. True hermaphrodites posses BOTH sex markers when analyzed using PCR techniques.
A phenotypic difference is the appearance of fully defined male flowers at the beginning of flower production verses the appearance of a male stamen in a female pistil dominate flower after flower production had been initiated. A True hermaphrodite has both fully formed male and female sex morphology at the same time of flower induction. Photos included below.

Environmentally Induced Hermaphrodite in Cannabis
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques can be employed to determine the type of hermaphroditic tendency a cannabis seedling posses one week after germination. The genotypic difference of hermaphroditism is present by the time the first true leaf emerges after the cotyledons appearance.

Montana’s medical marijuana community has seen a huge shake up since July 1st of this year. Labs have gone dark do to the legislative pressures to “repeal” the will of the people. In true Montana style “patients” and “caregivers” banded together to halt the advancing armies of cannabis prohibition.
The Montana State Legislature passed the repeal in disguise Senate Bill 423. This NEW law reversed many of the advances we made, here in Montana, towards patient access to quality controlled medicinal grade cannabis and cannabis infused products.
Montana Biotech forged ahead in the less than conducive environment to maintain our doors being open to those interested in potencytesting their medical cannabis and cannabis isolates.

When cannabis is added to chloroform, for instance, it no longer qualifies as usable marijuana. No person can use the medical marijuana once it is added to an adulterant. To make analysis possible, a patient or provider would weigh 1 gram of cannabis and add it to the NEW Montana Biotech medical marijuana sample collection method. If concern over sample collection continues, contact Montana Biotech for other options that are available. If you are a patient providing for yourself, SB423 does not effect you submitting samples in anyway! Samples will be prepared in a way that the “useable medical marijuana” is rendered useless due to the addition of adulterants so human consumption is impossible. MontanaBiotech is a botanicalresearchlab located in Bozeman RE-discovering the science behind cannabis, from their genes to the final product.
